Two kids playing by a pond

When it comes to great accessible kid-friendly activities in Baltimore, MD, there is a city of fun waiting for fun-loving families. Take the kids for a drive in a mobility vehicle to fly through the sky, discover and explore the world around them, and trundle down the tracks on the first commercial track in the country.

1. Float in the Sky

If you’re a family of daredevils, indoor skydiving is definitely for you. The one-of-a-kind iFLY Indoor Skydiving experience is a lot like skydiving, but instead of falling, you float safely inside a specially constructed state-of-the-art wind tunnel.

You don’t need to be fit and in perfect shape, and people of all abilities and kids as young as three can learn how to iFLY after an orientation course by a professional instructor. iFLY offers different packages, including a virtual reality package to soar over exotic destinations from the Swiss Alps all the way to Hawaii.

Address and Hours

iFLY Indoor Skydiving is at 8209 Town Center Drive in Baltimore.

2. Experience, Discover, and Explore

Your kids will love spending a few hours discovering and exploring the world at the Port Discovery Children’s Museum, one of the country’s top five children’s museums. Unlike other museums where children are not allowed to touch any exhibits, they are encouraged to touch everything around them on all three of the museum’s floors.

The interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences are designed to develop kinesthetic abilities and spatial recognition, spark children’s imaginations and give them a better understanding of the world around them. The museum is accessible to wheelchairs, including all entrances, restrooms, and elevators. All spaces and exhibits are adaptable to accommodate varying abilities, giving families full access to all the activities and experiences.

Address and Hours

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is at 35 Market Place in Baltimore and is open Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday to Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Choo-Choo Down the Tracks

If your kiddos love trains, the B&O Museum is the place to go. The museum has the world’s most extensive collection of 19th-century locomotives, housed in the original 1884 roundhouse, the birthplace of American railroading. There are loads to see from the early days of railroading, historic locomotives, and railroad equipment. All the buildings and pathways are accessible and meet ADA guidelines.

A visit to the museum is not complete without boarding the Mile One Express for an exhilarating 20-minute train ride on the first commercial railroad track. The train ride can accommodate two wheelchairs per train ride, and service pets are welcome.

Address and Hours

The B&O Museum is at 901 West Pratt Street in Baltimore and is open Monday to Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
